Did you know that the word “Ecuador” is the Spanish word for equator? This silly little 2-minute video is a show-within-a-show of our Ecuador trip video. It was the result of the perfect storm of Preparation, meets Quick Thinking, and add a dose of Good Luck. Knowing in advance that we were planning to visit the official tourist monument at the actual equator, Don & B.D. had done quite a bit of planning to surprise the guys with this nautical tradition that happens when crossing the equator for your first time. For the record, B.D. is a retired US Naval Officer who had personally experienced this traditional hazing ceremony on a US aircraft carrier back in the early 1980’s. So, it only made sense that he would be the one to play the role of King Neptune to dish out the hazing to the rest of the pollywogs. The plan was that our city guide would take the photos, and she did. What we didn’t plan was that Brother Bill Martini took it upon himself to video everything on his iPhone while he was being subjected to the nonsense. It all came together with a perfect silly song from the 1971 movie “Bananas,” and the result will make you smile.
