As this version of the A-B winds down and reinvents itself, it is time to knock off some big bucket list trips. In November 2022 we are heading back down to South America (this will be our third time) and explore the Atacama Desert. We are also tagging on a couple to days in the Pacific port of Valparaiso. So, you are probably asking why the Atacama Desert after you just came back from Death Valley National Park? Some might say that counters the old vaudeville saying, “never follow a banjo act, with another banjo act.” That’s fair, but one could argue that it is not the same because we are going from the “simply” extreme to the “extremely” extreme. The Atacama Desert is so dry, it makes Death Valley look like a Panamanian jungle. There are weather stations that have been there for decades and that have never recorded rain. And….instead of being below sea level, the Atacama is over 7,000 ft in elevation, not counting the mountains. We have nine guys signed up…….so this should be interesting.
